Friday
See the godmother of punk, Patti Smith, perform her 1975 classic, Horses, from start to finish at the Wiltern on Friday. Tickets are sold out through the venue, but this is one of those shows where (reasonably priced) resale tickets are well worth the investment.
If you're more in the mood for a movie, check out a screening and Q&A of Room. It's part of the Contenders, a series of this year's most influential and innovative films as picked by the Museum of Modern Art and presented by the Hammer Museum. Stick around for a post-film Q&A with director Lenny Abrahamson and actors Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay, moderated by MoMA curator Rajendra Roy. Advance tickets are sold out, but a limited number will be available at the Hammer box office starting at 6:30pm.
If you'd prefer to avoid resale tickets and standby lines altogether, secure your spot at NerdMelt for The Friday Forty. Scott Gimple and Dave Holmes—yes, the former MTV VJ—welcome comedians Jon Gabrus and Kyle Kinane to down a few before tackling 40 questions about the last 7 days.
Saturday
LEGO fans, rejoice: Bricks LA is hosting two days dedicated to everyone's favorite building toy at the Pasadena Convention Center. Participate in speed, blind and relay builds and scope out a show floor where LEGO-related vendors will be selling sets, parts and accessories.
Afterward, pay your respects to Lemmy Kilmister during a memorial service for the late Motörhead frontman. Lemmy's longtime hangout, the Rainbow Bar & Grill, will celebrate the metal icon's life from 2pm to 2am. If you're stopping by between 5pm and 9pm, the bar will be closed for a private service, but fans are welcome to pay their respects at the Roxy and Whisky A Go-Go.
Sunday
Join Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars' Lando) and a half-dozen cast members from Aliens at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention. The long-running show is taking over the Reef on Sunday with a mix of comic books, toys and all sorts of other collectibles.
Show off those New Year's resolution-ready legs at the annual No Pants Subway Ride. Strip down to your skivvies and embark on a discreet mission with other half-naked Angelenos at Metro stops around the city. If all goes according to plan, No Pants participants should all pull into the Hollywood/Highland stop around 3pm.
With your bare-all afternoon behind you, reward yourself with a decadent dinner during the first night of Pasadena Cheeseburger Week. The SGV city claims to have invented cheese-topped patties, and to celebrate it's hosting a week of burger deals and special creations at over 40 restaurants.
Wrap up the weekend at Church—no, not that one, we mean CHURCH: Stand-Up Comedy. Brent Sullivan, Sean O'Connor, Julian McCullough and Beth Stelling—one of our comedians to watch in 2016—host this weekly stand-up show at UCB Sunset; tonight's lineup includes must-see sets from Maria Bamford and Cameron Esposito.
