Friends and relatives you haven’t seen all year are probably arriving in town tonight, and you'll all want to get out and celebrate. Many bars report that the night before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest, drunkest nights of the whole year, as locals look to kick back in their hometowns. The phenomenon has even been given a name: "Blackout Wednesday."
When we think "drinks with the old homies" our thoughts turn first to dive bars, where the drinks, décor and maybe even a few of the patrons will probably all still be familiar from our younger days (probably from our granddads' day, too). For something with just a bit more polish, maybe invite the gang to gather at a rooftop lounge where you can wax nostalgic while gazing out at the city skyline.
If you’re the one who has moved away and you want to get a glimpse of the hippest new places that have opened since you were last in L.A., you might want to hit ETA, Baldoria or another selection from our favorite openings of 2016.
To truly embrace the warm California weather, throw autumn drinking conventions to the wind and grab a tiki cocktail at the extravagant new Pacific Seas, one of the most exciting new spots in Los Angeles right now. Dig that idea? L.A. has a few more storied tiki bars to choose from, as well.
And, if all that drinking leaves you with a wicked hangover on Thanksgiving day, we have some expert advice for you on that topic as well.
