We Angelenos love driving so much that it's only natural we would name our streets after the city's most beloved figures. Case in point: the soon-to-retire Vin Scully.

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved a motion on Friday to change the name of Elysian Park Avenue to Vin Scully Avenue. The nearly quarter-mile street between Sunset Boulevard and Stadium Way will take the longtime Dodger broadcaster's name. As a result, Dodger Stadium will now be located at 1000 Vin Scully Avenue.

Scully has been calling games for the Dodgers since 1950—this year will be his last behind the booth—when the team was still based in Brooklyn. His "It's time for Dodger baseball!" exclamation has become as intrinsically tied to the team as Dodger blue.

The proposal was first submitted by council members Joe Buscaino and Gilbert A. Cedillo back in January. The seemingly uncontroversial change did face some opposition; public comments at the city council meeting suggested that a baseball announcer may not be culturally appropriate enough to warrant an entire Echo Park street, but maybe a single intersection instead. Nevertheless, the motion passed 13-0—a nine-inning shutout, if you ask us.

The street will receive an official dedication on Monday, April 11 at 11:15am, on the corner of Stadium Way and the street formerly known as Elysian Park Avenue. Dodgers fans wishing to attend are advised to park in Lots 13/14 on Stadium Way.
