We know it feels like summer just got started, and chances are, you’re probably not thinking about Halloween just yet—but we are going to give you a big reason to start flipping your calendar pages over to October right now. The Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is coming back for 2016 bigger than ever, and pre-sales for tickets start this Friday, July 15.
In a press release, the Haunted Hayride boasts it is “the most popular Halloween attraction in the country.” While we don't know about that, it’s certainly a favorite among local events, so we were excited to hear that the organizers this year have updated the ride, changed the theme and expanded the space.
The 2016 theme is “Secret Society,” and a visitor will find themselves on one of two tracks, labeled Elite or Deranged, while making their way around the 30-acre site. Unlike previous years, this time around riders will be allowed to hop off the hayride wagon itself and explore on foot—if they dare. Expect that to lead to a secret initiation ritual and a corn maze populated with unsavory characters.
Elsewhere, ticket holders can go trick-or-treating in a “suburb of Hell” (so, we assume it’s mostly tricks) which has spread out to twice the size of last year’s version with more doors to knock on and mischief to experience. There will also be a blacked-out haunted house to explore, designed in collaboration with NBCUniversal’s forthcoming movie Ouija: Origin of Evil.
We’ll see you on the wagon—if we don’t chicken out.
Los Angeles Haunted Hayride takes place in Griffith Park and runs Thursdays through Sundays from October 1 to 31. Tickets are $44 for general admission, $61 for VIP or $32 for hayride only.
