Ever walk by an elaborate street art mural and wish you could have been there to watch the artist creating the piece? Now is your chance, as Secret Walls invites you in for an on-stage illustration battle—and party, of course.

They call their events the “Fight Club of the art scene,” bringing artists together for 90-minute mural-making showdowns. And, like Fight Club, there are rules at Secret Walls. Rule number one? No pencils, no sketches. Everything has to be done live, in the moment, and the artists only get one shot to do it right. Another signature rule: Only black and white, no color. The monochrome minimalism keeps all the focus on technique.

Founded in an underground nightclub in Shoreditch, London, back in 2006, Secret Walls events have now popped up in 50 cities around the world. On Friday night, you can watch as the battle goes down at the recently-opened Monorex Gallery at Start Los Angeles. The live art-making will be done by two teams, one representing Monorex and the other backed by Reddit, a sponsor of the night. Hosting duties will be carried out by Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated Peoples. Food will be provided from the team behind Pico House who just recently made Zagat’s "30 Under 30" list.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to compete as an artist, you can submit an application online and hope to be chosen for a future battle.

Secret Walls: Reddit vs. Monorex takes place on September 16 at 7pm at Monorex at Start Los Angeles, 2272 Venice Blvd. Admission is free with RSVP
