Friday
Choose between a trio of participatory performances on Friday. At the Hollywood Bowl, you can partake in the Sing-A-Long Sound of Music. Watch the nuns-and-Nazis musical and yodel along to the Julie Andrews classic.
Back in Hollywood, say "vaya con dios" to Point Break Live. The long-running theatrical spoof of the 1991 Swayze-Reeves cult classic puts on its last show Saturday at Dragonfly. Though the final show is sold out, you should be able to find a few tickets for tonight's penultimate performance.
Over on the other side of Griffith Park, see the LA Zoo in a whole new light during the kickoff of Roaring Nights at the Zoo. This special after-hours series boasts everything from live music and a dance party to pop-up zookeeper talks and live animal encounters.
Scope out five unique murals, each painted by a different street artist at Degrees of Perfect. This late-night pop-up in the Arts District's Container Yard features a special type of paint that reacts to heat; Toro Y Moi will be on-hand spinning a DJ set.
Saturday
Rise and shine to watch the sunrise at the latest LACMA Local event, "Break." Participants in LACMA's meet-up program will assemble at the 340-ton boulder "Levitated Mass" for a sunrise meditation session, with a coffee and tea reception to follow.
Celebrate LA's incredible urban wilderness at the Natural History Museum's LA Urban Nature Fest. The Exposition Park museum is hosting everything from garden tours and nature walks to a taxidermy workshop and photography lessons.
Raise a glass to all things vino-related at LAWineFest. The lauded wine festival is a two-day extravaganza at Sunset Bronson Studios featuring more than 30 wineries, food trucks, music and more.
Scope out the city from 70 stories above at the Skyspace LA opening. This observation deck and glass slide atop the US Bank Tower opens to the public today. If you're interested in buying a ticket (or in heights) visit the building's free block party, with performances from Snoop Dogg and Far East Movement later in the evening.
Meet Lil Bub, Pudge, Nala Cat and more at the return of CatCon LA. If you're not a crazy enough cat person for the convention, then stalk your way to the CatVideoFest, a cat video supercut from "Henri, Le Chat Noir" creator Will Braden at the Theatre at Ace Hotel.
Sunday
Walk, run, skate, bike and explore the San Gabriel Valley at 626 Golden Streets. This car-free event covers 18 miles of open streets, six Gold Line stations and seven SGV cities, from South Pasadena to Azusa. [Update: 626 Golden Streets has been postponed due to the San Gabriel Complex Fire.]
While you're in Pasadena, consider a stop at Politicon. Politics—on both sides of the aisle—and entertainment collide at this two-day convention. Guests on Sunday include Governor Sarah Palin, James Carville, Clay Aiken and a whole cast of comedians, including Anthony Atamanuik and James Adomian—whose hilarious Trump vs. Bernie debate has its own time slot on Saturday.
Get cultured without breaking your wallet with Taschen's art book sale. The coffee table book purveyors are taking 50 percent to 75 percent off photo books on Bowie, Warhol, the Stones and more at their two LA storefronts, as well as today at the Hollywood Farmers' Market.
If you're looking for a spiffy new coffee table for your art books, head to Mack Sennett Studios for INTRO/LA. This free show invites a select group of furniture and object designers to present their work as a single cohesive exhibit for the public to peruse.
Keep your artsy streak going at the mother of all design shows, Dwell on Design. Brace yourself for the urge to redecorate as hundreds of booths, tours, lectures, meet-and-greets, presentations and consultations hit the LA Convention Center.
