The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts is stepping up its game in more ways than one. Today, the performing arts center not only announced its upcoming 2016/17 season of more than 300 performances of dance, theater, music and more, it's also introducing the Sorting Room, a new and intimate part of the center that will feature cabaret, comedy acts, contemporary music and more—the full schedule will be announced in the fall.
The upcoming season will be the first with artistic director Paul Crewes at the helm. "In this, my first season as artistic director, I was keen to continue to present and produce work by world-class artists and companies, hailing not only from the US and abroad, but also from the enormous pool of talent right here in Los Angeles," said Crewes in a statement. "It is this vital blend of diverse performance and artistry that is building the Wallis’ fast-growing reputation, both nationally and internationally, as a center for creativity and excellence."
The season will begin with WelcomeFest, a weekend of free events held from Saturday, September 10, to Sunday, September 11. Also, on select Sundays (exact dates have yet to be announced), Debbie Allen will curate a free outdoor event series featuring various dance styles including salsa, African, tap, hip hop and more.
