An adorable baby koala has just made his grand debut to the world at the San Diego Zoo. Prepare yourself for a minute of total cuteness: the zoo recently posted the below video featuring mama koala and her joey making their way around the enclosure together. Cambee gave birth back in November, but the miniature marsupial has been living in his mama’s pouch ever since and until finally choosing this week to emerge. According to an ABC7 report, the female joey is doing well and has started eating eucalyptus leaves, the primary menu choice for adult koalas.
If 53 seconds of koala video just isn’t enough, the zoo also has a live Koala Cam running 24/7. The cam mostly just captures a lot of sleeping and munching, so we’re pretty envious of koalas right now.
The San Diego Zoo hosts one of the largest and most successful koala breeding and conservation projects anywhere outside of Australia. The Koalafornia exhibit has been a hit with visitors, and if you haven’t made the trip down south to check it out yet, you can take advantage of the summertime Nighttime Zoo, running from June 19 to September 5 with extended hours, entertainment and celebrations—particularly key since evening hours are when koalas are said to be most active.
