Taco Bell now delivers, and it's totally worth it

We're not above trying food fads at the Time Out LA office, but let's be honest—the fads don't always live up to the hype (See: Pizza Hut's hot dog pizza). So when I found out Taco Bell started delivering in some cities, I had my reservations. I have a special place in my heart for Taco Bell's Crunchwrap Supreme, a crush I cultivated through many post-bar visits in college. But the Supreme is a fickle thing, losing its crunch over time as the sour cream infiltrates the tortilla and the refried beans begin to soak through everything in its path. Could it withstand delivery in LA traffic?

Placing my order was easy enough. Taco Bell has partnered with the delivery service DoorDash, which you can download as an app to view restaurants in your area. I clicked into Taco Bell and found that the delivery time was listed as 40 minutes, though at peak lunch hour today it shot all the way up to 85 minutes. A selection of categories is listed—burritos, specialties, nachos, etc—along with add-ons like extra beans, guacamole and the option to make your order a vegetarian one. I ordered a Crunchwrap Supreme and a beef taco (and packets of hot sauce, obviously), with my total coming to $9.55: $2.80 for the taco, $4.10 for the Supreme, $0.62 for tax, $1 for delivery and $1.03 for a driver tip.

After receiving a couple updates via text message—"Your driver is on the way! :-)"—my order arrived in just 30 minutes, as DoorDash's delivery woman handed me a warm Taco Bell bag with a smile before zipping off. Friends, it was fantastic. The Crunchwrap Supreme was hot and still crunchy, the taco was soft and warm without being soggy, and I had just satisfied my Taco Bell craving without walking 30 minutes to get it. 'Merica.

A couple tips before you do your own ordering: The delivery service is not available in every neighborhood, so download the DoorDash app or check out their website to find out if they're servicing your area. Avoid ordering at peak lunch hours. Delivery prices vary depending on how far you are from the nearest Taco Bell. Finally, may I recommend the Crunchwrap Supreme? It tastes like freedom...and college.
