Traditionally, fifth anniversaries are for wood, but some of us would rather be handed a cone piled high with ice cream, on the house and with a cherry on top. It seems like Sweet Rose Creamery, one of LA’s best ice cream shops, agrees. On May 9, the artisanal scoop shop is turning five years old, but before the big day, they’re giving fans of the ice cream a chance to see exactly how chef Shiho Yoshikawa dreams up her farmers’ market-inspired flavors—and giving away scoops.
Beginning this Saturday (and every second Saturday of each month from now on) anyone five and older can attend a kitchen tour of the Santa Monica location (on Pico, not the Brentwood Country Mart location) led by Sweet Rose Creamery’s staff. You’ll see the ice cream-making process from start to finish, from raw ingredients to a creamy scoop and everything in between, ending with a complimentary frozen treat that should most definitely be enjoyed immediately. The tours are 10-11am and reservations can be made in advance by emailing catering@sweetrosecreamery.com.
Sweet Rose continues the celebration throughout May, offering a special Birthday Sundae ($7.50) for the entire month. It’s made with matcha green tea ice cream, rose geranium mocha, whipped cream, fresh strawberries and a matcha tuile cookie. Now that’s how you treat yo’ self.
