Long Beach native and Southern California hero/icon Snoop Dogg is getting in touch with his cannabis roots, which he has planted, harvested and is now trying to sell in the form of his new company, Merry Jane—a digital media company that will focus on all things marijuana.
Along with his business partner, LA native Ted Chung, Snoop presented the company on Monday at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, calling the product “A crossroads of pot culture, business, politics, health,” otherwise known as “cannabis 2.0."
Here’s what we know so far about the company’s expected content: there is going to be a cannabis cooking show (of course) as well as a show called “Deflowered,” in which people talk about their first time doing something. There also will be exclusive interviews with celebrities like notable marijuana fans Seth Rogen and Miley Cyrus. Merry Jane will also take on the hard news of marijuana, reporting on business, legalization and related stories. There will also be an education angle where users will be able to search by type of cannabis, flavors and symptoms. Dispensaries will also eventually be able to log in to the site to upload and update menus.
Snoop called the whole endeavor “an opportunity to come out of the closet and just admit they like to smoke.” Anyone who has ventured within five miles of Venice, or really anywhere around here here, knows that LA doesn’t really have an issue with closet cases. Still, Snoop is the first to step out. “I’m a smoker,” he said. “My name is Snoop Dogg, and I’m a stoner.”
Merry Jane is still in beta testing for the moment, but is expected to roll out to the general public over the next few weeks.
