Yoga events that are more like parties than classes are becoming the norm around here, and we're not mad about it. The latest yogi shindig with lots of hype? Washington, DC-based Grip the Mat's Soul & Spirit class, launching in LA for the first time this February.
The event happens in two parts: one hour of black-light yoga led by two Grip the Mat instructors, followed by a second cocktail hour featuring signature drinks made with Health Ade Kombucha. There will be a live DJ spinning throughout both hours, and attendees are encouraged to wear neon and white clothing (comfy, of course) to take full advantage of the black-light effects. The goal is a "yoga disco house vibe," and basically combines our Tuesday night with our Saturday night, an impressive feat.
Soul & Spirit will be held February 6 from 1 to 3pm at Couture (1640 N Cahuenga Blvd). Early bird ("of paradise") tickets are $25 and can be purchased here with the code timeoutla. If you just can't commit (and if the class doesn't sell out), tickets will be on sale at the door for $30. Mat rental is $2.
