It's been nearly two years since the short-lived Griffith Park Teahouse appeared overnight and attracted hikers to its wooden tranquility. While the pop-up structure may have left Griffith Park, the artists behind it have stayed busy since, including a temporary return of the teahouse in San Pedro, a shower of flower petals in a Downtown alleyway and an industrial site overflowing with jacaranda blossoms.
The anonymous collective is back again with a pair of late-night, public-facing pop-up installations. The first, Night Life LA (01), takes place as part of this Friday's Sleepless: The Music Center After Hours.
UPDATE: Night Life LA (01) will not happen on Friday, though Night Life LA (02) will go on as planned. Here's a statement from the artists:
We have just been notified (at the 11th hour) that our installation tomorrow evening is “uninsurable.” We had attained upper-management approvals from the LA Metro and the Music Center, but lawyers and brokers at a private firm involved unexpectedly reversed their approval today. (This is why we typically try not to work with “permits” and “permissions” or “umbrella policies.”)
Please accept our apologies at this late hour, but we must postpone this particular installation. We will not be participating in the Sleepless event this Friday, the 16th of June, at Disney Concert Hall. The Sleepless event will still be a lovely way to spend a late-Friday-night in downtown LA.
We will bring a version of this installation to life in the near future.

The immersive experience takes visitors backstage at the Walt Disney Concert Hall to view some sort of work that explores visitors' personal relationships with Los Angeles. It's vague, we know, and we only have these two teaser images to entice us.
Admission to that part of the installation requires a ticket Sleepless, which takes place Friday, June 16 from 11:30pm to 3am and costs $20 in advance and $30 at the door. But an additional component of Night Life LA (01) involves a view of an installation at Metro's Regional Connector construction site. That part is free and open to the public, and viewable from 2nd Street and Hope Street between 11:30pm and 3am as well.
The second event, Night Life LA (02), will assemble bioluminescent algae grown just for the occasion to craft a surreal beachfront scene filled with artists and performers. While the exact location hasn't been released yet, the organizers say it'll take place on June 24 starting at 10pm at an L.A. County beach somewhere south of Marina del Rey—which narrows it down to pretty much any stretch of sand between Dockweiler and Torrance.

Admission to the installation will require free timed tickets that are set to be released on June 21. In addition, the organizers suggest that visitors will need to allow their eyes to adjust to the darkness as much as possible in order to see the algae glow, so photography will be prohibited on-site.
As with the collective's previous events, the details stay pretty hush-hush until right before the event, so check back with the Night Life LA website as well as its Twitter and Instagram accounts for updates.
