Does Roy Choi sleep? Not only is LocoL, his new fast food eatery, set to open on January 18 in Watts, but it was just announced that the godfather of LA food trucks is setting up permanent digs for Kogi. You know, the truck that started LA's food-on-wheels movement and is every stoner's dream. The brick-and-mortar spot, appropriately called Kogi Taqueria, will open in a Palms strip mall toward the end of the month, serving the Mexican-Korean mashup dishes that put Choi on the map.
The space was formerly occupied by Sushi Central, but we're thinking this is going to be a definite upgrade. Plus, it's a sort-of homecoming for Choi, who opened the first iteration of Chego in Palms—and it's a relief for both tourists and locals who aren't down for chasing one of Kogi's trucks around town, that kimchi quesadilla always just out of reach.
Consider this a New Year's gift from the LA Son to us.
