Nail polish mega-brand OPI has unveiled their newest collection of summer colors and this time the famously silly, geography-inspired names are taking their inspiration from our own beloved Golden State. That means that instead of previous bottles with such names as “Spare Me a French Quarter?” from the New Orleans series or “Lost My Bikini in Molokini” from the Hawaii suite of shades, all 12 hues in the new California Dreaming Collection have California-inspired names (of varying degrees of ridiculousness).
Ranking all the nail polishes in OPI’s California Dreaming Collection
Don’t Take Yosemite for Granite
We’re big fans of our National Parks here in California and would never take Yosemite for granted. Also, kudos to OPI for doing their homework, as there actually is some granite in Yosemite and this shimmering dark grey evokes it nicely.
Feeling Frisco
In solidarity with our northern friends, we do typically bristle any time a non-Californian dares to say "Frisco" (ew) but we will let it slide just once, in the context of this cute beige-nude.
Time for a Napa
This doesn’t really scream Napa to us, but let’s just assume they’re going for a rosé sort of concept. Speaking of which, we could go for a glass right now.
To the Mouse House We Go
OPI previously released an entire Disney collection, Couture de Minnie. This bright, classic—sorry, magic, according to the marketing copy—red would match well with polka dot hair-bows.
Malibu Pier Pressure
If you ask us (and OPI really should have) this color clearly should have been named after Angelyne. Instead, they went with Malibu Pier, which, while making for a nice pun, really has no pink to show for itself.
GPS I Love You
Hey, we’re not going to front like we know how to get anywhere without our GPS systems either, so sure. Shout out to advances in mapping technology.

Excuse Me, Big Sur!
A soft rose pink gives us a low-key, romantic feeling, which fits pretty well for the location of one of our fave romantic getaways. We just hope we’ll actually get to visit Big Sur sometime soon.
This is Not Whine Country
This color is more raspberry than the "merlot" they’re claiming it is, but is pointing that out considered whining? Anyway, we guess we might still wear it while wine tasting.
Barking Up the Wrong Sequoia
The company describes this color as a "perfect peach." We double checked, and peaches definitely don’t grow on sequoia trees. In fact, nothing about this tone makes us think of one of our favorite camping forests.
Santa Monica Beach Peach
The Sequoia color is actually peach; this color with peach in the name is clearly orange. Someone please get OPI on the phone to explain this discrepancy. Though we'll hand it to them that many bods on Santa Monica Beach are definitely in the so-tan-they're-orange category.
Sweet Caramel Sundae
Honestly, we have no idea what this one is about. Is it a reference to the lovely town of Carmel-by-the-Sea? Maybe it’s a shout out to our multitude of ice cream shops? You lost us here, OPI.
Me, Myselfie & I
Are they implying that we take too many selfies here on the Best Coast?! Okay fine. but can you really blame us? Maybe the rest of the country should be as photogenic as California.
