There's a little bit of something for everyone in LA's summer music festivals, from the beat-heavy HARD Summer to the late-season "Oldchella," Desert Trip. The latest entry: a street fest for the hungry KCRW listener.
Music Tastes Good will take over Downtown Long Beach from September 23 to 25 with headlining sets from ska revivalists the Specials, folk outfit Iron and Wine, indie pop duo Sylvan Esso and more. The eclectic lineup can best be described as "KCRW approved"—the public radio station is presenting the fest—with a mix of alternative hip-hop (De La Soul, Deltron 3030), straight-up rock (Dr. Dog, RX Bandits), noise rock (Metz, Melvins), contemporary indie (Warpaint, Gallant, Girlpool) and thirtysomething cult favorites (Squeeze, Living Colour).
True to its name, Music Tastes Good has curated a food experience themed to each day of the festival. Friday will feature a high-energy block party with craft beer and local vendors; Saturday, the most jam-packed day of the fest, will offer four stages of music and a farm-to-table dinner; and Sunday will conclude with a Bloody Mary brunch.
Tickets go on sale Friday, May 13, at noon; single-day tickets cost $25 for Friday, $75 for Saturday and $35 for Sunday. A three-day pass costs $120, while a VIP pass costs $240 and includes a farm-to-table dinner.
