We may be going through a bit of a cool spell this week, but we're never ones to turn down frosty soft serve ice cream—especially when it's free.

Magpies Softserve, which first launched last year with a soft serve shop in Silver Lake, is expanding into the Valley with a second location in Tarzana. To celebrate, Magpies will be serving free soft serve all day, from 11am until 9pm.

Husband and wife team Warren and Rose Schwartz have grown a following for their in-house soft serve recipe and flavors that manage to strike a perfect balance between childhood nostalgia and a more refined, adult sweet tooth. The flavors rotate on a daily basis, but you can typically expect an assortment of swirled goodness such as sweetened cream, malted milk chocolate, toasted marshmallow, maple French toast and black sesame coconut macaroon mixed with toppings like chocolate-covered honeycomb, graham cracker streusel, butterscotch Rice Krispies, toasted maple coconut chips and, of course, sprinkles. If cups are too boring for you, Magpies also makes its sweets into soft serve pies and bars.

Magpies Softserve in Tarzana is located at 18971 Ventura Boulevard. The shop is open Sundays through Thursdays from 11am to 9pm and Friday and Saturday from 11am to 10pm.
