Tuesday, March 8, is International Women's Day—it's also the day that local mom and fiber artist Michelle Villemaire plans to yarn bomb the Pacific Palisades to bring awareness to less fortunate women in LA.

Villemaire will decorate 33 trees along Monument Street (just north of Sunset Boulevard) with yarn pieces, which will be collected two weeks later and turned into blankets that will be donated to a local shelter helping women and their families transition out of homelessness. Each of the 33 yarn-bombed trees will be dedicated to a different woman who made her mark on America's history.

Yarn bombing is nothing new in LA, we've seen it everywhere from Venice to Silver Lake over the years, and the entire Craft and Folk Art Museum storefront was yarn bombed a couple of years back. If you're interested in doing a little bombing of your own, check out the group Yarn Bombing LA—they often hold classes at CAFAM and elsewhere. Or, if you happen to the in the Pacific Palisades this Tuesday, stop by Monument Street at talk to Villemaire about her project.
