Every year, the non-profit arts organization Film Independent showcases some of the best up-and-coming filmmakers from around the globe at the annual LA Film Festival. If you're trying to break into Hollywood, it's an opportunity to take advantage of filmmaker-focused classes and coffee talks, but for the rest of us, the LA Film Fest means lots and lots of movie screenings.

This year's LA Film Festival lineup includes 56 feature films, 58 short films and 13 short episodic works from 28 different countries. From June 1 to 9, you can catch screenings at the ArcLight Culver City that range from local documentaries to horrifying films best saved for after dark.

The 2016 fest opens with a world premiere screening of Ricardo De Montreuil's Lowriders. In addition, Creed director Ryan Coogler is being honored as this year's Guest Director while Selma director Ava DuVernay and her Array Releasing collective will receive the Spirit of Independence Award.

Festival passes are currently on sale to Film Independent Members and the general public starting at $350. Tickets to individual screenings and programs will go on sale to the general public beginning Tuesday, May 10, at 10am.

In the meantime, check out the film fest's full lineup below, including the Los Angeles-inspired "LA Muse" program.
