Sure, January is coming to an end, but we like to savor that precious feeling of wondering what the new year will hold. We've already placed bets on your next favorite neighborhoods, comedians, restaurants and more. But we're not the only ones who like to think about the future.
Zagat recently released their "State of American Dining in 2016" report which uses data from the previous year to inform how we will eat and drink in this one.
One particularly interesting point for us in Southern California was the results of the survey question that asked people to report how many times they go out to eat each week, not including breakfast. Los Angeles ranked the highest with an average of 5.2 meals per week. That's compared to Boston, which reported people only eat out 3.8 meals a week.
The survey, which polled 9,248 diners around the country, also provided some other interesting insights. Stand-out numbers include the national average for tips (18.9 percent), the average dinner price per diner ($36) and the percentage of people who make reservations online as opposed to over the phone or not at all (52 percent).
