If you’ve been wondering what Keanu Reeves is up to lately, we’ve found him! It turns out that the star of The Matrix and Point Break is busy building custom luxury motorcycles out of a shop in Hawthorne.
In a conversation with Bloomberg, the actor-turned-mechanic (okay, also still actor—he’s actually been in three movies so far in 2016 with three more coming out in 2017) talks about his passion for the rides.
These bright, shiny ‘superbikes’ are based on a prototype that a revered motorcycle designer made just for Reeves years ago. During the process of creating that first bike, the designer, Gard Hollinger, and Reeves sparked a friendship that developed into a collaboration and, eventually, a company, Arch Motorcycles.
The price to get yourself one of the Arch KRGT-1 motorcycles might make most shoppers say woah (obviously)—they ring up at around $78,000 each. Only 30 of them are crafted each year, assembled out of 200 individual parts, almost all of which are created in-house at their workshop. If you really, really want a chance to hang out with Keanu Reeves, this might be your way in, since each one is fully customized to the owner in a process that involves multiple visits for measurements and fittings. Hopefully nobody finds themselves in a Speed-like scenario, forced to drive slowly, because these bikes are said to easily cruise along at more than 100mph.
For motorcycle-lovers, these high-end rides are likely the stuff of dreams, but they even have us car-drivers imagining getting on one, wind blowing past, as we ride along on our own excellent adventure.
