We're not really sure what's going on with this chilly May weather, but it's giving us a serious hankering for mornings spent holding a hot cup of coffee or tea. There are plenty of coffee shops to choose from—including your neighborhood favorite—but this weekend is a great time to check out somewhere new. And who knows? It could be your next go-to spot for everything caffeine related. Here are three brand new coffee and tea shops that have popped up in LA recently:
1. Kindness & Mischief (Highland Park): Through an impressive Kickstart campaign, owner Monique Maravilla combined her love for coffee and Los Angeles into this unique Highland Park shop in an effort to bring people, local artists and businesses together to benefit the community it resides in. Sip on iced matcha lattes while indulging in tamales from the shop's tamale pop-up (A peanut butter cup banana amber ale tamale? Yes, please!). 5337 N Figueroa St, Highland Park
2. Alfred Tea Room (West Hollywood): Located on the eponymous street and only a few steps away from Alfred Coffee, this pretty-in-pink tea room features an extensive list of teas ranging from matcha to peach blossom, along with a milk tea menu that includes house-made boba and syrups. The Alfred Group is no stranger to catchy phrases adorning the walls ("Can't we just get oolong?" adorns one of the Tea Room's walls), but this shop is the first of the group to be credit card and Apple Pay only. 705 N Alfred St, West Hollywood
3. Blackwood Coffee Bar (Hollywood): Blackwood Coffee Bar sits at the base of Runyon Canyon, offering caffeine hits to hikers and sedentary folks alike. There are regular cups of joe available, but you'd be missing out if you didn't take a chance on some of the more out-there items: a horchata cold brew, for example, or Blackwood's namesake drink served in a martini glass. 7509 Sunset Blvd, Hollywood
