Skrillex might be the biggest name in the world of dance music—and if he’s occasionally also one of its most divisive figures, that may just be more evidence of his influence across pop culture. This summer, his record label, OWSLA, will set up a residency here in L.A. with a theme that might surprise those who still associate his sound exclusively with the dubstep genre.
The party series takes its name and vibe from OWSLA’s recent compilation release HOWSLA, which found Skrillex and his collaborators including Chris Lake, Tony Quattro, AutoErotique, JOYRYDE and others, going back to the long and storied history of house music for inspiration.
While classic house certainly won’t be the only thing you’ll hear from the cadre of musicians who will be taking to the decks at Le Jardin this summer, a stream through the release should give you a sense of what to expect.
HOWSLA marks a fifth anniversary of OWSLA’s L.A. residency series, so they’ll definitely be sprinkling a little extra magic into each Sunday afternoon event. Each week’s artists are kept under wraps to maintain the element of surprise, but last year attendees were treated to performances by Baauer, RL Grime, Dillon Francis, Anna Lunoe, along with Skrillex himself (when he wasn’t guesting at Emo Nite, of course).
HOWSLA takes place at Le Jardin on June 4, June 18, July 9, July 23, August 13, August 27 and September 3 from 3pm to 9pm. Tickets are available online for $10 to $15.
