Los Angeles is a great town to visit, but sometimes living here can get overwhelming. The people, the traffic and the weather can feel like burdens that you simply can’t escape no matter where you are in the city. Here are six signs that you need to take a breather and go on a vacay from LA to regroup.
Road rage is getting to your head: Traffic and parking will always be an issue in Los Angeles, so at some point we all accept it as a part of life and do our best to get over it. But sometimes it becomes too much for your mind to bear. If this is the case, visiting a city with a smaller population where you can maneuver easily may be a good idea. Catalina, Las Vegas or one of these day trip locations are all good places to quickly run to (just avoid the traffic on the Vegas strip).
You're over the Hollywood scene, but still want to be out and about: Douchebaggery is alive and well in Hollywood. It can be overwhelming and annoying for a variety of reasons, like the fact that no one will tell you what they do, though they'll consistently ask you what you do. You may even show up to a club for a night out and be barred from going in because of certain celebrities inside. Whatever the case is, it can be a hassle to enjoy LA nightlife, which can be a major impetus to go and find something enjoyable elsewhere.
You are overloaded with work: Sometimes work takes over our lives and we don’t even realize it. Every time someone asks us what have we been up to, the response tends to be working, networking, grinding and, well, nothing else. The Los Angeles work scene, particularly the entertainment industry, requires locals to work as much as possible in order to soar to the top. Escaping for a week or even the weekend can definitely take your mind off of the day-to-day grind.
Pretentious LA residents are on your nerves: Though Hollywood is particularly pretentious, LA as a whole can be just as bad. Many people love to walk around with their $13 organic juices or drive their Lamborghini’s around Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive. And when residents are posting that they’re doing yoga on the beach instead of actually doing the yoga, it can become rather irritating. Visiting somewhere up the northern coastline, in the South or even the Midwest can give you the simple, down-to-earth energy you may be yearning for.
You miss seasons: It’s a privilege to have nice weather year-round, but having seasons is, well, normal. It’s pretty frustrating when you want to wear that lovely peacoat or those cute rain boots you own, but the 85 degrees won't let you. It’s even more frustrating if you want to break out the bikini the following day and the weather drops to a chilly 60 degrees. The East Coast is always good for consistency and can give you the summer heat, fall foliage and winter snow that Los Angeles tends to lack.
