According to a lawsuit just filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, three men “felt excessively full” after eating burritos at local Chipotle Mexican Grill locations. We kind of thought that was the point of Chipotle, not something to sue over, but okay.
When the guys walked into three different Chipotle locations around L.A., they each saw a sign advertising a chorizo-filled burrito, with nutrition facts stating that it had just 300 calories. They apparently took the slightly-implausible nutrition stat right on its face and gobbled up the burritos. Afterward, My News L.A. reports, they found themselves feeling more full than they thought 300 calories would suggest.
The next step was, obviously, to contact attorneys and develop a class action lawsuit against the Mexican food chain alleging that the menu contained false and misleading nutrition information that, their attorney says, caused customers to be “lulled into a false belief that the items they are eating are healthier than they really are.”
What else could you possibly do if you're eat too big of a burrito? Stop eating it before you feel stuffed to the brim? Swear off Chipotle for a while? Claim loudly that you're totally going to go to the gym after this? No, you get a lawyer.
Chipotle isn’t conceding the point. They say that the 300 calories stated on the board was accurate, because that is how many calories are in the chorizo. Anything else you put in your burrito, well, that’s on you to count up the additional calories. And, if the infant-size food bomb you consume adds up to more like 1,390 calories after you pile it up with all the fixings (as an online nutrition calculator for the chain suggests for a fully-loaded meal), you definitely might feel excessively full, but the company doesn’t think it’s to blame for that.
