Blue Bottle's third LA cafe is now open—with affogatos

Blue Bottle's third Los Angeles location officially opened yesterday on Beverly Boulevard, one year after taking over Handsome Coffee (sob!) in the Arts District. The San Francisco-based empire (I think we can call it that now) has seen great success since moving to LA—there's another Blue Bottle in Venice, and a Bradbury Building outpost maaaaybe opening soon—and their new cafe is a reflection of that, boasting an expansive food menu that includes toast, waffles and sandwiches. And if you're hankering for some ice cream, they're the only location as of yet to offer affogatos. Sweet!

I headed to the Beverly Grove newcomer yesterday afternoon to see how the cafe was doing, and found it about a third full with people tapping away on their computers in the bright, airy space (if you've been to the Downtown location, it has a very similar feel). My friend and I ordered two toasts (both $7): one with poached eggs, and one with jam and ricotta, along with Blue Bottle's New Orleans cold brew and their Three Africans blend. The toast is great—thick bread, perfectly poached eggs and fresh jam—though I'll be back to try the grilled cheese as well to see if it's worth the $12 price tag.
