We just assumed that Beverly Hills—the real one, not all of those places that just slip "Beverly Hills" into their name—had a dog park. The tony city has taken on the stereotype of a town filled with Chihuahua-toting socialites, but it turns out all of those pups never had a dog-friendly public place to play together.

That's about to change as the Beverly Hills City Council voted to move forward with a plan to build an off-leash dog park, according to the Beverly Hills Courier. Though the design is yet to be decided, plans call for the park to be constructed at the corner of Alden Drive and Foothill Road.

Here's where the story gets all Beverly Hills-y: The city is looking into limiting access to Beverly Hills residents via keyed entry, though also potentially extending an invite to local businesses and hotel guests. On the plus side, that does mean that the exclusive park would be limited to vaccinated and spayed or neutered pooches. On the downside, the city is essentially saying "Bye Felicia" to the rest of us. Beverly Hills is also looking into staffing a full-time ranger and curbing the recommended 6am-10pm hours to 8am-8pm due to community pushback.

Unsurprisingly, it was a packed and heated city council meeting, according to the Courier, that lasted until almost 1am. The idea for a dog park had apparently been kicked around for nearly a decade. That it took so long to approve a granite lot where dogs can defecate and drool echoes the drawn out process to appease the opposition to the Metro expansion—also a place where people can… responsibly and cleanly use public transit.
