Update (6/29/16): According to Ballast Point Brewing's Facebook post this afternoon, the popular brewery will be officially opening their new tasting room and kitchen tomorrow, June 30, at 11am. Stop by for a pint of Grapefruit Sculpin IPA at the Long Beach brewery, located at 110 Marina Drive.
Further proof that LA is craft beer's newest stomping ground: San Diego-based brewery Ballast Point is opening a restaurant and taproom in Long Beach. And if it's anything like their space down south, we're in for a real treat.
The brewery announced the opening on their Facebook late last night, and put a call out for anyone who might be interested in working at the new location. The space is sizeable: a 11,427-square-foot area that used to be Khoury's Restaurant. Ballast Point won't stray too far from the former occupant, operating mainly as a restaurant while providing a wide selection of beer, like their incredibly popular Grapefruit Sculpin IPA. The LA Times reports Ballast Point has also applied for a brewing permit in order to brew small-batch beers on site.
Possibly the most enticing part of the brewery's opening is its sweet location. Located on Marina Drive, you'll be able to sit out on the deck and look out onto the marina with a beer in hand and the breeze in your hair. Scheduled to open in late spring or early summer, it's definitely going to be a crucial part of our weekend drinking schedule.
