The Los Angeles LGBT Center will hold a vigil and rally at 7pm tonight at LA City Hall in Downtown. In addition to leaders from the LA LGBT Center, those in attendance will include representatives from the LA Transgender Advisory Council and the Latino Equity Alliance. The Gay Men's Chorus of LA will be at the vigil as well, along with Mayor Eric Garcetti. A prayer will be led by Rabbi Denise Eger of West Hollywood's LGBT-oriented synagogue Congregation Kol Ami.
Members of the Latino Equity Alliance will meet at 6pm in Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights to march to City Hall, and all are welcome to join.
The vigil and rally will take place on the south steps of City Hall (West 1st Street between Spring and Main Streets) between 7 and 9pm, and will be a time to remember, mourn and celebrate the lives of those who were killed in the Orlando shooting—the worst mass shooting in American history—as well as those members of the local Los Angeles LGBT community who have lost their lives. Just under four thousand people have RSVPed to the event's Facebook page, where you can find more details on attending speakers as well as directions from the Metro (parking will be available in nearby lots, but the LGBT Center is encouraging people to take public transportation if possible).
Much like the sentiment at this year's LA PRIDE, tonight's gathering is an opportunity to rally together, to support one another and to love and celebrate freely.
