After last year's shutter of Alma, Ari Taymor and Ashleigh Parsons' critically-acclaimed fine-dining spot in Downtown LA, the future of the duo was relatively unknown. Would they open another restaurant in LA? Try something in a new city? Turns out, they didn't stray too far. In December, Taymor and Parsons started a temporary residency at the Standard hotel in West Hollywood—and today, they've announced that they'll be running the hotel's entire food and beverage program full time. That's breakfast, lunch, dinner, a pool menu, room service—the whole shebang.
Is it an odd pairing? Sort of. In its former iteration, Alma was known for its experimental, modern techniques, while the new all-day menu at the Standard is more comfort driven: chickpea fries with pickled chile, a lobster roll and, yes, a burger. But the focus on seasonality, plus Parsons' natural wine list and craft cocktails, will still be present.
"We didn't want to reinvent the dishes that people love," says Taymor. "We want to execute them with care and consistency."
Alma will be available by the pool as well, and on July 30, room service will launch, giving hotel guests the opportunity to snack on Taymor's sopa de lima with Jidori chicken, a smoked chicken club, and an avocado and cabbage salad from the comfort of their own bed.
Not staying at the Standard? You can still enjoy Alma throughout the day for breakfast (6am-noon), lunch (noon-2:30pm), dinner (5:30pm-close) and Sunday brunch (11am-2:30pm). On the pool deck, breakfast is served 9am-noon, and the all-day menu is offered from noon-close.
