It may only be fall—and still feel like summer—but we're already looking forward to a snow day. No, we're not taking a road trip to Big Bear or Mammoth; we get to experience it right here in L.A. Are we crazy? Snow in L.A.? Yes, thanks to the inaugural Snow Day L.A., the city's first snow tubing park, set to open in November just five minutes from Downtown Los Angeles.
Saying it's a snow tubing park doesn't seem to do it justice. In a press release, the event is described as nine acres of magical winter wonderland, with 10,000 square feet of synthetic snow and snow tubing, and trees decorated with icicles, snowcaps and lights. The release also describes what is likely to be the only blizzard you can experience in L.A.: "On the hour, every hour, the music fades away to a news report forecasting heavy snowfalls. The energy amplifies with rustling trees and gusts of wind, as Snow Day L.A. turns into a blizzard! Snow blowing in the air quadruples, a perfect opportunity for a winter photo."
And a winter wonderland wouldn't be complete without hot cider and cocoa to enjoy in cozy lounge spaces. Grab something to nibble on from various food trucks, which will be located under a 30-foot-tall snowman. Want to commemorate the experience? Head into the giant inflatable snow globe photo booth to snap a photo. Looking for a photo for your Christmas card? Might we suggest purchasing tickets for the VIP Penguin Lounge, where guests will not only receive complimentary drink tickets but also a penguin themed onesie Snuggie to take home—or, if you ask us, the perfect outfit to change into before heading into the snow globe photo booth.
Snow Day L.A. will take place at the Old Lodge in Elysian Park on various dates between Nov 17-Dec 23, from 4:30-10:30pm. Ticket packages vary and range from $12-$45, but prices are subject to increase.
