A 'rock fairy' is dropping off tiny anonymous artworks

There’s a rock fairy flitting around the San Fernando Valley dropping off dozens of colorfully painted stones, and people are really excited. The anonymous artist behind the paintings has been leaving them around Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Valley Village and Valley Glen in recent weeks, but has yet to be identified.

People are pretty into these rock paintings.

“I was really excited. Somebody had taken the time to create something beautiful and share it in an anonymous way. It did feel spiritual,” Rose Fenton, the recipient of one of the stones, told CBS Los Angeles

Another resident who was treated to a painting featuring an elaborate pattern of circles and dots noted that, “I don’t want to get too deep, but the circular patterns represent the circularity of life. It’s wonderful.”

What is behind these rock deliveries? We may never know. The mystery seems to be part of the artist’s project. With one rock, a note was left responding to the many posts on neighborhood social media boards about the pieces. The artist stated that they appreciated the thank you posts they had been seeing and, “I enjoy creating the rocks.”

If you’re not lucky enough to be visited by the rock fairy, might we suggest visiting one of Los Angeles’ many fine art galleries to get your spiritual fix? Or maybe taking a quick weekend trip out to see some really impressive rocks?
