In a move to capture our attention, Mayor Eric Garcetti is now on Snapchat. The social sharing service with messages that disappear in seconds after opening is now valued at a whopping $10 billion and growing — in large part due to a new demographic that includes politicians like Garcetti.
Garcetti's first Snapchat was of him playing the piano. While it's great to have a mayor who supports the arts (and apparently, is fairly well versed in them), it'd be pretty cool if he decides to use the social medium for a few other things. Here's the wish list...
1. Testing out the new Expo Line from Downtown to Santa Monica (which is set to be in trial mode later this year). Seriously, we can't wait!
2. Crowd-surfing at Coachella. Well, maybe not the most mayoral thing to do, but still pretty tame for former Toronto mayor Rob Ford.
3. Giving away things like Oprah. Maybe Garcetti takes to the streets and passes out essentials, or takes a cue from our Powerball article to help out LACMA or save a LA institutions like Vidiots?
4. Celebrating a Dodgers' World Series...especially because last year we had to watch the Giants win it all.
5. Taking a bike ride through the streets of LA during CicLAvia. So, it didn't work out so well when George W. Bush hopped on a segway, but hopefully Garcetti's coordination is a little better.
6. Sitting in traffic. This may be the #1 frustration of Angelenos. We'd love to see how the mayor handles it. It's OK...we'll excuse a little road rage.
7. Chug a craft beer at one of LA's awesome local breweries or festivals.
Check out Garcetti on Snapchat at LAMayorsOffice. As long as Garcetti doesn't use Snapchat to share himself Anthony Weiner-style, then we should all be OK.
