7 things to do in LA on Valentine's Day that have nothing to do with Valentine's Day

Some of us don't care about Valentine's Day—and not in an anti-V-day kind of way. No, for a bunch of Angelenos, Saturday is just another day to go about business as usual. While your oh-so-romantic coupled friends worry about constructing the perfect Valentine's Day, we've put together some of the best things to do on Saturday that steer clear of the holiday.

1. Hollyhock House 24-Hour reopening

Frank Lloyd Wright's first California design has finally swung its doors open again after a three year renovation. The beautiful abode's opening celebration kicked off Friday with overnight self-guided tours, but you can still waltz in for free until 4pm on Saturday.

2. Free Salt & Straw ice cream

We know, we know—dropping by a chocolate shop on Valentine's Day is pretty damn Valentine's-y, but who can argue when there's free ice cream involved? And you've seen today's high temperature, right? Head to Compartès Chocolatier in Brentwood from 1 to 3pm, where Larchmont Village darling Salt & Straw will be scooping gobs of chocolate, caramelized pretzels and hazelnut fudge.

3. Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich

Remember the all-Malkovich-everything restaurant scene in Being John Malkovich? Photographer Sandro Miller has his own art world twist on the concept: He had Malkovich sit down for portraits recreating some of the most iconic photographs, from Dorothea Lange's portrait of a migrant mother to Annie Leibovitz's image of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Show up to the gallery show on Saturday for an artist talk at 1pm.

4. Sentimental Lady: Guilty Pleasures

Air out your guiltiest pleasure for all of UCB to see, as this comedy show transforms one audience member's skeleton in the closet into a full blown sketch. The ticket page jokes that wearing a Dave Matthews Band concert T-shirt will get you in for free; we think something along those lines (A Kriss Kross hoodie? A Menudo headband?) is a surefire way to find your guilty pleasure played out on stage.

5. Urban Cat Architecture

Get your cat-struction gloves on: Machine Project is hosting a series of classes where you can design and build your own piece of feline furniture. Keith Rocka Knittel hosts these workshops for creating scratchers, lounges, boxes and more. Saturday's lesson, the second of three, focuses on window-mounted cat boxes, including litter boxes and cat hangouts.

6. Hollywood Costume

See some of the film world's most well known costumes in person, and get to know the designers who made them a reality. Originally a touring show, the Academy's rendition of the exhibit added 50 more costume pieces, including Dorothy's ruby slippers and her blue gingham dress. The exhibition closes at the end of the month, and with the Oscars next weekend, there's no better time to visit.

7. Riff Raff

Riff Raff?! Riff Raff. Are we endorsing the Vanilla Ice for the Vine era rapper? Eh, not really. But spending Saturday at the House of Blues listening to the zig-zag bearded, Bart Simpson-tattooed enigma rhyme about Dolce & Gabbana and his "jawwdinz" is about the least Valentine's thing we can think of.
