We love fireworks just as much as we love 'Murica. But overpriced parking lots, beachfront gridlock and windy deathtrap roads through the hills? No thanks. This 4th of July, opt for these easygoing alternatives instead. Don't worry, we're still suggesting some of the biggest, most dazzling fireworks shows in LA; we just happened to find the best places to view them, leaving more time for an extra serving of BBQ and a slice of apple pie.
Bona Vista Lounge
Forget lawn chairs, bug spray and grassy parking lots; instead, watch the fireworks in style at the Bona Vista Lounge. The rotating bar atop the Westin Bonaventure literally defines 360-degree views. It's not the tallest building in Downtown by any means, but you'll be able to catch a glimpse of flares all over town, including a clear shot of the Music Center rooftop for the Fourth of July Block Party at 9pm.
Old Town Pasadena
There's a reason the Rose Bowl fireworks are called Americafest—it's about the biggest, most patriotic pyro display you'll see in SoCal. But getting into and out of the Arroyo is a traffic nightmare. Instead of lurking on the golf course or in nearby neighborhoods, grab a drink in Old Town and walk over to the Colorado Street Bridge for a clear view of the fireworks (just try to tune out the freeway noise). Alternatively, grab a spot in the early evening atop the parking garage on the northwest corner of Union and Delacey for an elevated view of the show.
Baldwin Hills
If you're up for a few steps (read: 282) then lace up a pair of comfy shoes for a 4th of July spent atop the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. It won't be a ghost town by any means, but expect those stairs to keep less determined revelers away. You'll spot fireworks going off all over the LA Basin, and, if it's clear enough on the ocean, Westside and beachfront shows off in the distance.
Hollywood Hills... just not on the 4th
It's not quite as patriotic as seeing fireworks on the Fourth, but you can avoid some of the crowds by checking out the July 4th Fireworks Spectacular at the Hollywood Bowl on July 2 and 3. The Hollywood Bowl Overlook peers right into the Bowl, though parking is extremely limited. The view from the turnout near Lake Hollywood Park has a more obstructed view, but you'll find a bit more street parking there.
Disneyland parking garage
Disneyland shoots off fireworks every single night, but for the Fourth they tack on a patriotic pyrotechnic finale. You should absolutely see the incredible "Disneyland Forever," the latest fireworks spectacular, from inside the park. But if you're just looking for massive fireworks without any of the magical presentation, the top level of the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure directly overlooks the launch point. Prepare yourself for car alarm-triggering levels of noise and pyro.
