5 places on the Westside to watch the Super Bowl

The big game is today and for all you Westside folk who want to avoid the roads, we’ve got you covered.

1. The Daily Pint

Scotch & shuffleboard…what more do you want? If you can pack yourself in to this little place, it’ll be worth it. The Daily Pint has a “Cheers” feel to it, and while you may not get a big screen, you’ll feel a little more like you’re enjoying a party with a bunch of buddies.

2. The Whaler

The outdoor patio overlooking the beach will be prime real estate, but you can also cozy up to the upstairs or downstairs bars. You’ll have plenty of TV’s all tuned in, and the beach is only a few steps away if you find yourself too intoxicated to operate a bicycle and need to lay down (pass out) for a bit. This place will fill up EARLY, so get a good night’s rest on Saturday and prepare to get there bright an early for mimosas, bloody mary’s, and a complimentary contact-high from the nearby dispensaries.

3. The Bungalow

The Bungalow is one of the more unique venues on the West Side. It feels like a giant house party, hosted by Abercrombie & Fitch. There’s an air of “bro-ness” to many of the patrons, and the line can produce a ridiculous wait. Still, this place is worth it if you can get in. Several different bars, a large outdoor area, and ping pong! Plus, they’ll be doing a giant pig roast for the Super Bowl from 2-10 pm. If the Super Bowl was in Los Angeles, this is the place that Gronk would be hanging out.

4. Busby’s

This is your ‘good old fashioned sports bar’ option. Plenty of space, generally great and attentive staff, and above average bar food. One of the luxuries of Busby’s is the handful of different rooms, so if you encounter some idiots in one room, you can shimmy on over to another location.

5. Ye Olde King’s Head

First off, any place that starts with “Ye Olde” isn’t messing around. Right near the Promenade in Santa Monica, this place has a great atmosphere, legit fish & chips, and darts. Plus, you can always stumble on down to Cabo Cantina afterwards for some punchbowl margaritas that will induce vomiting (and possibly diabetes). The opportunity for creative drinking games involving darts and the Super Bowl makes King’s Head a top choice. Also a plus is the fact that is isn’t a designated Patriots or Seahawks game-watching spot so you won’t have belligerent fans to deal with. On a related note, if you go to Sonny McLean’s on Wilshire wearing Seahawks gear, you might want to call the hospital beforehand and have them prepare a room for you.
