Installation artist Glenn Kaino has turned a 28,000-square-foot space in DTLA into a surreal forest that asks visitors to contemplate their relationship with nature. There’s a lot going on here, from its basis of years of nature essays in The Atlantic to a narrative about Native American controlled burns. But here’s the gist: You’ll find a few focal points from Kaino (an infinity mirror well, a grove of talking trees, a terrace of simulated fire and an illuminated repurposing of a fallen, century-old fig tree that once stood at the end of Olvera Street) all wrapped up in a moody forest environment.
