The boardrooms have provided many of this resurgent series’ highlights this year, and tonight’s offers up a genuine first. It follows a task in which neither team is able to muster up much in the way of competence, communication or conceptual coherence, with Endeavour and Evolve asked to create an online dating website, film a TV advert (oddly – why not an online one?) and then pitch it to the experts.
With ‘Love Ignition’ sadly cast aside, the teams settle on ‘Cuff Links’ (for the young professionals) and ‘Friendship and Flowers’ (for daters of an older vintage). Men attempt to relate to women while Karren Brady looks on in despair. A candidate seems to more or less cut their own throat. And by the end, a mournful cello is wheeled out for the exit music as Alan Sugar delivers his first ‘with regret’ of the series. Outstanding. And, by the end, a ‘Magnificent Seven’ remain – but which one’s Steve McQueen and which is Brad Dexter?
