Sir Colin Davis with Love: In Performance; In his Own Words

A double bill celebrating the man often described as the pre-eminent British conductor of his generation. Sir Colin Davis died last month, remaining, until the last, a slightly enigmatic figure. ‘In Performance’ sees him conducting part of Beethoven’s ‘Missa Solemnis’ at the 2011 Proms. ‘In His Own Words’, which follows at 8pm, reveals something of the man behind the music.

Shortly before his final illness, Davis spoke at length to renowned filmmaker John Bridcut about his life, beliefs and musical passions. Davis wasn’t afraid of controversy, having eschewed celebrity and disowned most of his early career. No preview material was available, but the combination of Davis’s interesting story and Bridcut’s passion for his field should make for fascinating viewing.
