Series one, episode two
More Brits abroad as this new drama starring Mark Strong and Lennie James continues. Both do themselves proud too, roaming the benighted urban prairies of Detroit seemingly struggling to decide whether they’re seriously iffy coppers or reasonably principled criminals.
As it stands, their badges are really the only way to tell; tonight, they wave their cocaine spoons around, beat the shit out of each other and destroy a crime scene as further unsettling facts about the murdered McCann continue to emerge. Meanwhile James Ransone’s Damon continues to nudge his way towards the heart of the Motor City’s gak trade. There are strong echoes of ‘The Shield’ in ‘Low Winter Sun’s’ central dynamics, but that doesn’t make it any less worthwhile – this is well constructed, absorbing drama.
