The Mick and Mairead Philpott case was the most high profile recent example of what this documentary dubs ‘crocodile tears’. Does this strategic feigning of emotion in public by perpetrators really happen often enough to constitute a ‘phenomenon’ in need of its own investigation? Channel 4 has decided that it does – we’re sure that the wringing of hands and concomitant inflated viewing figures have nothing to do with this commission.
No preview material was available, but expect this film to focus heavily on the Philpott case – C4 have secured exclusive access to accomplice Paul Mosley’s brother, Bryan, who will be speaking about the incident for the first time. Also look out for reflections on cases involving Shafilea Ahmed, who disappeared in 2003, and Tia Sharp, murdered in 2012.
