Australian comedy seems to be flavour of the month just now, with ‘Problems’ airing on Dave and a new Chris Lilley sitcom in the works. Here we have the familiar setting of Christmas in a dysfunctional suburban household down under, but with the neat gimmick of each episode leaping forward a year.
Young Dan Moody (Ian Meadows, aka Rocco from ‘Home and Away’) returns to Sydney from London after years abroad, already in a foul temper after being dumped by his girlfriend and facing the festive season with his family of oddballs and losers. Could his cousin’s hot girlfriend, Cora (Jane Harber, or Bianca from ‘Neighbours’) offer some comfort?
No previews were available, but trailers hinted at another series of awkward, slightly subdued character comedy that doesn’t mind exploding a few taboos in search of a laugh. Debts to ‘The Office’ are, of course, fitted as standard. Episode two follows, with the rest of the series broadcast every weeknight at 10pm.
