Ready for the kind of break you’ll be banging on about for years? Well, we think we’ve found it. And yep it’s in Canada but don’t you go thinking that’s too far away – it’s a lot closer than you might think: just five hours from London, in fact. And yeah, sure, St John’s is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city full of fun (not to mention incredible food...), but if you want ludicrously lush wilderness, too? Well, there’s some serious natural wonder right on your doorstep.

But let’s break it down so you really get the full picture, because it sure is pretty. Here are five reasons why you totally need to check this place out.

Downtown St John‘s

It’s all about culture, colour and cuisine in St. John’s bustling downtown, famous for its rainbow-hued row houses, rich arts scene and thriving culinary culture. From fresh seafood to craft cocktails, the dining options will impress even the most seasoned foodies.

Next-level nature

Step outside the city and you’re instantly surrounded by dramatic coastlines and incredible wildlife. Embark on a whale-watching tour, spot puffins in their natural habitat, or hike along rugged coastal trails for jaw-dropping views.

Extend your adventure

If you have more time, St. John’s is the perfect gateway to Newfoundland and Labrador’s iconic wonders. Explore Iceberg Alley, stroll through UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and visit picturesque fishing villages that will steal your heart.

Getting there’s a breeze

Did you know you could get to Canada this quickly? We certainly didn’t. You can fly direct to St John’s in just five hours, which means if you grab a morning flight you’ll be sipping a Newfoundland Screech with most of the afternoon and evening ahead of you.

The road trips are epic

If you really want to explore here, picking a route and jumping in a car is a brilliant way to do it. Our advice? Explore the Western region where you’ll get to see not one but two UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Gros Morne National Park and L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site), as well as glacier-carved fjords, hiking trails, ancient indigenous sites and more.
