In case you've been living under a rock, Waltham Forest has been named London's Borough of Culture for 2019. Kicking off the special year-long cultural programme is ‘Welcome to the Forest’ - the biggest party Waltham Forest has ever seen.
The free three-day-long fest, will see Waltham Forest Town Hall transformed into an audio-visual, site-specific film by artists Greenaway & Greenaway, telling the story of the borough through the eyes of its community and set to a soundtrack by Mercury Music Prize-winning musician and producer Talvin Singh. There'll also be a brand new commission from local electronic duo Addictive TV who've composed a unique piece of music created by sampling audio and video of Waltham Forest’s very own musical talent.
Festival curators Continental Drifts will transform Forest Road into a neon-lit winter carnival in partnership with Gods Own Junkyard.
While Lloyd Park will be home to ‘Nest’ - a huge lighting installation from artists Marshmallow Laser Feast choreographed to a soundscape by composer Erland Cooper working with local schools and choirs.
