When you’re treating yourself to a weekend away, it’s great to have a little insider knowledge – especially about things to do nearby. That’s why Time Out has teamed up with Premier Inn to bring you the brand new One Great Thing guide.

From shopping to star-gazing, art-loving to wine-tasting, our online guide is packed with the UK’s best hidden gems and experiences. It also includes the nearest Premier Inn hotel to each attraction, which means wherever your next adventure takes you, you’ll have a great place to start.

Your favourite places

Time Out writers across the country have picked their favourite places, and as part of our exciting competition with Premier Inn, we wanted you, the readers, to share yours with us too.

Unsurprisingly, there were a lot of city-lovers. Thanks to their vibrant music scenes, Brighton and Manchester were popular choices, and Edinburgh’s thriving creative culture made it a firm favourite nationwide.

But you also loved escaping to the country – some because of fond memories, others because of the fresh air and picturesque landscapes.

Here are just a few of your highlights. And for plenty more ideas, remember to check out the One Great Thing guide with Premier Inn at www.timeout.com/premierinn.

Baltic Market, Liverpool

‘I love a visit to the Baltic Market in the up-and-coming Baltic Triangle. The Baltic Market is an epicentre for all things independent. It’s in the iconic Grade II-listed Cains Brewery which was rejuvenated back to its former glory specially for the market. A plethora of independent food vendors are hosted, each offering a unique culinary experience in an amazing atmosphere, including a live DJ and huge fake blossom trees. Look out for the amazing halloumi fries which are now a permanent fixture at the market. It feels great to support local businesses.’ Rebecca

Hay on Wye

‘You can get completely lost in secondhand bookshops in the morning, spend time in any of the many pubs, then hike Hay Bluff in the afternoon.’ Ailish

Hampton Court Palace

‘To be here is to imagine Henry VIII sweeping through the corridors, his court trailing in his wake. The ghost of Catherine Howard is said to dwell here – her sadness seeps through the walls.’ Judy

Newcastle, Northern Ireland

‘A town where “the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea” (as the song goes). Miles of wild mountain and caves to explore – all less than an hour from Belfast. A more romantic setting you’d struggle to find.’ Graham

Isle of Skye

‘Eerie, magical, rugged, beautiful and everything in between. The weather can change in an instant but despite that, the place makes you want to explore.’ Freya
