2016 marks the 500th anniversary of Thomas More's influential 'Utopia' and to celebrate, Somerset House have programmed four glorious seasons of events, exhibitions and activities exploring the idea of an ideal society. This is the first time the institute has collaborated with its neighbours King's College London and the Courtauld Institute and Gallery, extending the realm for both physical and virtual spaces to be created in which to discover more about the text. Literature, art, fashion, design, architecture, theatre and film all feature and highlights include Now Play This, a weekend festival showcasing dozens of different games (Apr 1-3), The Utopia Fair presenting 25 projects bringing together communities, researchers and artists around the UK to explore what utopia means to them (Jun 24-26), and The London Design Biennale: Utopia by Design which sees installations from 40 countries occupy the whole of Somerset House, exploring the history of the utopian idea and how design can solve some of humanity's most pressing issues (Sept 7-27).
