The Southbank Centre has decided to stretch its Earth Day out to Friday with a series of online literature, music, and art events connected to the temporarily closed Hayward Gallery exhibition ‘Among the Trees’.
In collaboration with the Hayward Gallery, the Southbank Centre’s Literature Team and National Poetry Library plan to release ten newly-commissioned poems by writers such as Mona Arshi and Dominic Bury, each inspired by a work from ‘Among the Trees’. If you didn’t get the chance to see the show pre-lockdown, you can explore it on a virtual video tour. Keep an eye on the venue’s IGTV for video readings of each poem.
You can also listen to poet Holly Corfield Carr’s new audio-essay, ‘A fly’s-eye-view’, an artistic interrogation into how we look at trees. And if you’re looking for new music, try the Southbank’s new Spotify playlist, which is inspired entirely by ‘Among the Trees’.
