The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

A long-weekend of celebrations to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee. In addition to the late-May bank holiday (June 4 2012), there is an additional bank hol on June 5, 2012. Events to mark the Queen's sixtieth year as monarch include a river pageant (June 3, 2012) with the Queen, travelling in the royal barge, leading a flotilla of around 1,000 boats on the Thames, the Big Jubilee Lunch (June 3, 2012), in which neighbours are encouraged to share lunch or hold a street party, a BBC concert at Buckingham Palace (June 4, 2012), the lighting of a chain of 2,012 beacons across the country (June 4, 2012), a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral and a carriage procession on the Mall (Jun 5, 2012).
