All but six of the Catford Excalibur Estate's 186 prefabricated bungalows, build by German and Italian prisoners of war in 1945 and 1946, are scheduled for demolition. Photographer Elisabeth Blanchet has been documenting the estate and has worked with local residents to create a museum in one of the prefabs to celebrate the history of these modest buildings. The museum, which opens on Saturdays, contains photographs, memorabilia and video interviews created and collated by Blanchet as well as works by 16 other artists, writers and film-makers who share her fascination with prefabs. Free events taking place throughout the exhibition run include guided tours of the estate (Saturday June 21, Saturday July 19 and Sunday August 23, 2.30pm), a karaoke night on Saturday July 5 (6pm till late) and a movie night on Saturday August 9 (6pm-10pm). The museum will also be taking part in Open House London on Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21, 10am-5pm.
