Old Bill was a phlegmatic cartoon soldier with an impressive moustache created by Captain Bruce Bairnsfather during World War I. Bill's popularity and ability to cheer the nation lead to Bairnsfather being labelled 'the man who won the war', and the artist's work continues to influence cartoonists to this day. This talk will look at his life and work, which includes writing and film making as well as his iconic cartoons. Book in advance.
